Random Thoughts: Real Life versus Social Media

Well, it’s been a long time since the last time I visited my own personal blog. Actually I had no idea why I left this one, maybe I was so busy adapting with my new life called “college”.

After 15 months break, I decided to write again. Frankly, it’s because of something suddenly crossed through my mind. I got inspired by something I’ve been doing for so long in about 5 years. You know it; living my life in social media.

Let’s start.

I’ve got one pathetic story (I guess): One day, my aunt visited my home. She brought her husband, and two daughters. The eldest one is 13, you can call her Lany. When she was just arrived at my home, she went to my bed and laid there, spent her time by staring at her cellphone for hours and ignored my family here, at my home. I was curious what she was doing, and found her scrolling through her Instagram. I said, “Lan, let’s have lunch together! I’ve cooked your favorite menu, aren’t you hungry after having “long journey” to get here?” and she only shook her head and ignored me. End of story.

I wonder what’s going on, does this happen to other people too?

There are some simple questions: (1) “Why do we sacrifice our real life and choose to spend our precious time by scrolling through social media?”; (2) “Have you ever wondered about how much time wasted by living your life in social media and ‘leaving’ your real life instead?”; and this, (3) “Why do we keep our Instagram feeds look awesome and ignore our messy real life? Shouldn't it be reversed?”. Well, can you answer those with the most logical answers? I don’t think many people can do that.

This time, internet has been being one of the most important things in life. We can do anything with internet included connecting us with anyone in socmeds. But sadly, some people don’t use it wisely. Many humans got addicted with internet. I can’t lie, it affected on me too, and sometimes I search for a way to get out of the “socmeds addiction” because I know it bothers my real life. But still, I ended up staying up all night doing something unproductive.

I wonder what’s going on in my life, in everyone’s life, is this real life more pathetic that we prefer to spend most of our time by scrolling through socmeds and watching videos in YouTube multiple times? Can’t I just have one day without internet and spend those 24 hours by having fun with my closest people? Because the wasted time can’t be replaced…

You know what’s more miserable? Many people keep their Instagram feeds look awesome, aesthetic, or something like that and ignore their messy real life. Even I found some people have another (or more than one) account so that they can keep the main account looks nice, and they post anything mess in the second one. Well, what’s the point? Does that make they live happier? And, do you think it’s cool if people know our life is as happy as we act in socmed whereas it doesn’t seem like that at all?

There’s one more thing. I feel bad for people who tend to find friends in socmeds. Maybe you can say that it feels good sometimes talking to strangers, you can discuss about anything with them. But still, I think talking directly-faces to faces-with friends is the best way to get rid of my loneliness. I can read their emotions, laugh together, and many other things that chat apps could never do.

Well, don’t you miss the time when you really talking to your love ones without bothered by cellphones? Isn’t it so precious? And, why you always keep your head down, forget the real world, and staring your phone screen for hours? Doesn’t it make your eyes feel tired?

Think again, fellas. Make your time to take care of your real life. It needs to look as aesthetic as your Instagram feeds too.
